Description:
Vitreo-Retinal Associates of Shreveport, Louisiana, is offering a two year clinical retina fellowship under the direction of Charles E. Lyon, M.D., FACS.
The fellow will work in Vitreo-Retinal Associates’ main office. The second-year fellow may also be expected to rotate through the satellite clinics. Those clinics are located in Ruston, Louisiana and Natchitoches, Louisiana and are associated with Vitreo-Retinal Associates.
Fellows will work under the supervision of Dr. Lyon as they develop their clinical and surgical skills. They are encouraged to be involved in as much research as possible. They are expected to be involved in clinical research projects with the intent of publication of the results. The Retinal service offers a complete array of diagnostic services. The fellows will be expected to gain a high level of competency in regards to the usage and interpretation of digital imaging, OCT, ultrasound, and to a lesser degree ICG angiography. The fellows will be trained in medical and surgical retina, as well as uveitis management.
Surgical Retina:
The first-year fellow is expected to assist Dr. Lyon in all private practice cases done through Vitreo-Retinal Associates. As that fellow gains proficiency, he will be allowed to perform cases under the supervision of Dr. Lyon. The second-year fellow will have a greater independence in regard to operating on surgical patients, but still will be supervised by Dr. Lyon.
Medical Retina:
State of the art solid state laser systems are available at all Vitreo-Retinal Associates offices. This includes the use of the slit-lamp as well as indirect ophthalmoscope. PDT is also available. The fellows will become proficient in the use and injection of multiple intravitreal agents.
Salary and Benefits:
The first and second year fellows are employees of Vitreo-Retinal Associates. The salary is to be determined.
Vitreo-Retinal Associates will offer health insurance in accordance with the company’s policy.
Vacation/Time Off will be in accordance with the policy of Vitreo-Retinal Associates.
The fellows are to apply for staff privileges at Willis-Knighton Medical Center, North complex and Schumpert Medical Center, Saint Mary campus.
The fellows are asked to sign a non-compete clause.
Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate from an accredited ophthalmology residence program.
- Must have at least two years of ophthalmic training within the United States.
- Must be eligible for Louisiana State Licensure. http://www.lsbme.org/
Foreign Applicants: all of the above PLUS
- Students must acquire J1 visa through ECFMG GEPT-LA license permit for foreign student.
